San Francisco, what a great place to be a concert-goer! If there were any doubts surrounding the accuracy of that statement, recent announcements regarding concert opportunities on September 27 should eliminate them. Within a five mile radius, there are three concerts we would like to attend. Unfortunately, we can only go to one.
First, the Savages announced a visit to The Independent. The show sold out the day the tickets were available. The sellout occurred so quickly, The Independent and Savages added a second date, which also sold out. If you are unfamiliar with Savages, it is a band with an attitude, but one that makes for a great performance. The members of Savages are Gemma Thompson (guitar), Jehny Beth (vocals - aka Camille Berthomier), Ayse Hassan (bass) and Fay Milton ((drums). Yes, a London-based female band in the post-punk genre.
Then last week, tickets went on sale for Lorde at the Fillmore. Lorde is the stage name of Ella Yelich-O’Connor, a New Zealand singer/songwriter who will turn 17 on November 7. In the United States, she has exploded onto the scene with her single “Royals.” The tickets for the Fillmore performance were gone in less than 15 minutes.
OK, let’s say you don’t have tickets for either Savages or Lorde. One option is to scalp tickets. But another is to grab tickets to see London Grammar at the Rickshaw Stop. We have four tickets to see Savages, but would not be disappointed if something were to happen that would result in our being at the London Grammar performance. Savages perform "She Will" at the studio or KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic. As we noted, Savages have an attitude - one that makes even repetitive lyrics interesting.
