Reptar Is Bringing Their Energy to The Independent

     This a third posted response to Darlene’s request for recommendations of upcoming concert opportunities in the San Francisco area.
     Over the last three years, there have been many good reasons for going to the concerts we have attended. The most common reason is the obvious one – we enjoy the collection of songs by a particular band. Other solid reasons include:
   1. A family member wanted to see a performer (Sam Smith);
   2. Historical significance (Paul McCartney);
   3. Concert withdrawal (The Donkeys);
   4. Strong grouping of bands at a single concert (all festivals); and
   5. The band is electric in a live performance (Reptar in 2012).

     Well, Reptar is returning to The Independent. (Hey Reptar, here comes a “left handed complement!") For us, there isn’t a particular Reptar song that stands out. Their genre isn’t one that normally attracts us. The vocals and the instruments are good, but not anything exception. But we will be at The Independent on April 24 because concerts should be entertaining, and a live performance by Reptar is entertaining. Two years and many performances later, we still refer to Reptar’s visit to The Independent as having set the bar for measuring the energy level of bands (yes, they are an energy bar).
     Reptar is from Athens, Georgia. The band is named after a dinosaur-like character in the Rugrats cartoons. They just released their sophomore album, “Lurid Glow.” The core members are Graham Ulicny (vocals, guitar), Ryan Engelberger (bass), William Kennedy (Keyboards), Andrew McFarland (drums) and Jace Bartet (guitar), but often perform with Walter "BadDog" Fancourt (sax) and Sean Smith (trumpet).
