“Someday” by Banta – A Song Review

On the same day it was announced that Pat Benatar would be interviewed at South by Southwest (SXSW), we listened to Banta’s “Someday.” The timing was appropriate.
In 1983, Benatar released her anthem for youth in a difficult relationship – “Love Is a Battlefield.” It was a simpler time; in 1983 both the Benatar video and Michael Jackson’s video for “Beat It” proved potentially dangerous situations could be quickly defused by inspiring everyone to break into choreographed aggressive dance. Don't try it today!
Benatar’s music remains relevant, as evidenced by her invitation to SXSW 2016. But Banta delivers another anthem for fundamentally the same target audience, just a different generation – “No I’m not waiting around. Someday won’t hold me down.” The anthems are both suited for the romantically embattled, but they stand on their own, and each stands tall.

Banta is based in Echo Park, California. The members are Sharaya Mikael (vocals, guitar), Kristin Hardin (vocals), Jon Marcu (drums), Scott Clear (lead guitar), Steve Oh Grohne (bass) and Alathea Reece (keys).
