Cathedrals is a San Francisco treasure. The blogosphere was initially introduced to the duo’s brand of Synth Pop with the release of “Unbound.” The momentum was sustained with their following tracks, but Cathedrals is now positioned for acceleration. Brodie Jenkins and Johnny Hwin plan to reveal a new song each month for the rest of 2018. The releases are in conjunction with Soundcloud's "First on Soundcloud" Campaign, which features Cathedrals and nine other artists.
“Hits Me Like a Landslide” is among the new songs. It is Cathedrals' first single to place Johnny as the lead vocalist since “Unbound.” Still, the backing vocals play a major role. While the start of the song is a single voice, the beauty of the duo’s harmonization soon becomes attention-gripping. The track also includes a segment that permits Brodie’s voice to stand alone. 
Lines within the lyrics of “Hits Me Like a Landslide” were lifted straight from love letters, which helps explain the strong sense of intimacy carried by the song. According to Brodie, who witnessed the relationship breakup that inspired the song, Johnny “exorcised the demons of that relationship with every line that he penned."
The on-stage pictures included in this post were taken during Cathedrals’ outstanding performance at the Treasure Island Festival in October 2014. This is a duo that can deliver beyond the reach of the processing of a studio setting. The Facebook site of Cathedrals notes that in a live performance, Brodie Jenkins and Johnny Hwin are joined by Mitchell Wilcox (drums) and Jonathan Hererra (bass and synths).
