“Child” by Dog In The Snow – A Song Review

“Child” is a modern-day protest song. Under the moniker Dog in the Snow, Helen Ganya Brown unleashed her threat – no children if conditions don’t improve. The lyrics apply to the individual and to our planet (particularly with the references to “stop bombing me” and “stop killing me”). Dog in the Snow is from Brighton, England.

     According to Helen:
"I was thinking of the idea of protest in the 21st century, sometimes it seems like congregating en masse still makes one feel powerless. So I thought (pretty sarcastically) what if every woman threatened to never have a child ever again? It’s my tongue-in-cheek and desperate attempt at blackmailing humanity for a sustainable future, and regaining ownership of one’s body and choices, whilst trying to come to terms with the mixed expectations of women’s roles in society."

“Child” will be on the upcoming LP entitled “Consume Me.” The LP is scheduled to drop on October 20, via Battle Worldwide.

Lyrics of “Child” by Dog in the Snow
I wonder if I could throw my hands up
And outwards to the sea.
To say this future is not one for me.

And I wonder if I could just live my life
Without the known calling and plea.
And say this future’s not for me.

I won’t have child
Unless you show me humanity.
I won’t have child
Until you stop bombing me.
I won’t have child
Until there is safety.
I won’t have child
Until you stop selling me.
I won’t have child
Until you show me sustainability.
I won’t have child
Unless you stop bombing me.
I won’t have child
Until there is safety.
I won’t have child
Until you stop killing me.

Fuck your TV family
[Repeat]
