Frances Luke Accord - Free Friday/Saturday (“FL&R”)

Free and Legal Downloads? Yes, at least temporarily. Bands often temporarily permit free downloads of their releases.  The end of an offer may be based on the expiration of a set period of time or on a limited number of downloads.  But at least for now, here is a song that qualifies as a Free, Legal and Recommended (FL&R) download.
Finding songs that can be legally downloaded is easy. The difficult task is to find legally downloadable music that we recommend. Our plan is to post at least one FL&R song each Friday/Saturday.
As apparent from the first 50 seconds of “Honeyguide,” Frances Luke Accord needs no help in generating a magnetic field that attracts the attention of listeners. So, we thank the duo for magnifying the field’s force by inviting Humbird.

Frances Luke Accord is the performance name of Brian Powers and Nicholas Gunty. They were raised in South Bend, Indiana, but now identify their location as “Chicagadelphia.” Humbird is Minneapolis singer-songwriter Siri Undlin.

Frances Luke Accord explains “Honeyguide” as an exploration of the idea of distance and territory through the story of the eponymous tropical bird. Our favorite aspect of the song is difficult to identify. Perhaps it’s the attraction of the combination of male and female voices in the final verse. More often, we select the execution of the alternating ascending and descending sequences in the initial eight lines, where the odd numbered lines escalate and the even lines gently return.

“Honeyguide” is the first single from the upcoming album of Frances Luke Accord. “Silver & Gold” is scheduled for release on January 25, 2019.

Lyrics of “Honeyguide” by Frances Luke Accord
All my life I've always run short
All my short life I've always run
Lost and won in right and wrong
In the long run life goes on

Sing to me of all so sweet
Most of all the gold I seek
Give me this my daily honey
Money, honey, money, money

It's a matter of time, not a thing you say now could sway me
Not from up in my tree, now I'm out here and hungry
My lock, my key
My wandering belly

I got nothing to hide; I wear my mind like the feather white I lead you by
Every time your pipe rings like heaven on the daylight
You're my honeyguide and I'm so hooked on the sweet inside
And now it's been so long since you came out to string me along

I'll climb this tree
You hide I’ll seek
Your life with me
My love of honey
