“Ghost Town” by Esimorp – A Song Feature

Esimorp masterfully marry lyrics to composition, complimenting the performance of a song to its message. “Ghost Town” is exceptional, as it begins with an ambiance that draws the listener into an understanding of and affinity with the poetic description of isolation. The reflective guitars and the brief piano reside in the upper frequencies during the verses:
I am a ghost man
I live in a town just down the road
Where everything is quiet
And nobody knows that we're alone

Encompassed by darkness
We're surrounded by everything
With all of these thoughts to share
No audience but my own ears

Then, after the chorus, the deep resonance of the bass enters to enhance the emotion of the message and the texturing of the sound of “Ghost Town” (1:34). The percussion also plays an increasingly more prominent role. Slightly more than one minute later, the intensity of the song and aggressiveness of the instruments increase, bringing the passion behind the communication of the message to the forefront. In the final seconds, the song returns to the original anguished ambiance.

The members of Esimorp are Promise Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitar), Ric Newsom (guitar, backing vocals), Julian Chan (percussion), and Paul Roth (bass, backing vocals). Interestingly, the name of the band is the reverse spelling of Promise’s name. Esimorp have risen to become one of Hong Kong’s most popular live bands in recent years. Combining its members’ diverse backgrounds with their singular commitment to creating music that moves the listener, the quartet transcends the local Hong Kong music scene with a sound that has won international recognition.

“Ghost Town” is a single from Esimorp’s upcoming album ”Roar Like The Ocean.” The album will be released on November 15. To pre-order the album, go to https://esimorpbandhk.bandcamp.com/

Lyrics of “Ghost Town” by Esimorp
I am a ghost man
I live in a town just down the road
Where everything is quiet
And nobody knows that we're alone

Encompassed by darkness
We're surrounded by everything
With all of these thoughts to share
No audience but my own ears

I can hear it
I can hear your silence.
What do you say to nothing?

It comes like an ocean wave
Expectant hearts are still alarmed
The chaos of the silence is
One can hear your every sound

I can hear it
I can hear your silence
What do you say to nothing?
To nothing

I can feel it.
Oh, I can feel your absence
What do you say to nothing?
Oh, to nothing

I am a ghost man
I live in a town just down the road
I am a ghost man
I live in a town just down the road

Oh, I can hear it
I can hear your silence
What do you say to nothing?
To nothing

I can feel it
Oh, I can feel your absence.
So what do you say to nothing?
To nothing

What do you say to nothing?
Nothing...
