Cage The Elephant has been one of my favorite bands for a long time. Watching the band evolve from a punk-influenced sound to a much more blues-influenced and classy alternative rock band has left a really positive impression on me.
The band has recently released three singles in preparation to release an entire album December 18th. The sound of these three tracks does not differ in extreme measures from their album, "Melophobia," released in 2013. But unique factors are heard throughout the three songs—elements of surf rock and vintage 1970s vibes combine to create fresh sounding music different from Cage The Elephant’s previous music.
“Mess Around” is the first track the group released, and it’s wonderfully sloshy cymbals and high energy make for a perfect single. Channeling some of same sounds The Black Keys and Wavves use, this song is perfect for getting pumped or dancing alone in your room.
The second single, “Trouble,” is my favorite recent track of theirs. It is very similar to the sounds off the last album, with strong ‘70s vibes, and it actually has a nice Indie Pop general energy.
“Too Late To Say Goodbye,” the most recent song release, again breaches into Black Keys' territory, and dips into a category of sound the Arctic Monkeys completely dominate—full guitar cords and perfectly disorganized sound with retro vigor.
I truly can’t wait to hear what the rest of the album brings to the table in a couple weeks.
