In a 2013 post, we noted that The Away Days were headed to Austin, Texas for SXSW, and we hoped they would put together a U.S. tour having San Francisco as one stop. Sadly, the SF stop did not occur. The Away Days are returning to SXSW in 2016. This time, our hope is that their shows won’t be so popular that we can’t get into one.
The Away Days are from Istanbul, Turkey. The members are Oğuz Can Özen (guitar, vocals) and Sezer Koç¸ (bass), Haktan Ilhan (guitar), Orkun Atik (keyboard) and Anil Atik (drums). They will release a debut album in 2016.
The music of The Away Days is characterized by high energy guitar with more down-tempo vocals. It’s a sound that sets them apart from other bands in their genre and is likely to bring them into the music spotlight in 2016.
