About four years ago, the movie “Argo” was released. The movie was based on occurrences during the 1979-81 Iran Hostage Crisis. The song that is associated with the historical event is “Tie a Yellow Ribbon” by Tony Orlando and Dawn. During the time the hostages were held, people tied yellow ribbons around trees to symbolize support.
When the hostages were finally released, the Tony Orlando song was played on radio stations, regardless of their format. While Indie Obsessive respects the symbolism behind the song and the patriotism in playing the song after the historic release, our choice for greeting the returning Americans would have been Kenny Loggins’ “Celebrate Me Home.”
