Congratulations to Babymetal on the selection of their name. The band is a fusion of a girl group (Baby?) and a metal band. That is, Babymetal is one part J-Pop and one part Heavy Metal. They refer to their genre as “Kawaii Metal” (‘kawaii” meaning “cute”).
The energetic female vocalists are Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto), Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi). The metal is the Kami Band, which has a full membership comprising Takayoshi Ohmura (guitar), Leda (guitar), Mikio Fujioka (guitar), Isao (guitar), Boh (bass), Hideki Aoyama (drums) and Yuya Maeta (drums).
Babymetal has scheduled European and U.S. tours. One stop will be in San Francisco. On July 12, Babymetal visits the Regency Ballroom in SF. Posters showing the full tours are embedded below.
This week, Babymetal performed their song “Gimme Chocolate” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
