The Irish band Walking on Cars released “Speeding Cars” on October 30, 2015. While doing some research about the single, we chanced upon a video of the band performing the song at a music venue in July 2013. It’s another insight as to how difficult it is for a band to gain success. “Speeding Cars” is a treat starting with the piano intro, continuing through the crescendo that occurs when the lyrics give permission to “advertise my secret,” and remaining evident during the transition from guitar dominance to lyrical reflection at the end of the song. Despite the attractiveness of "Speeding Cars," it took two and a half years for the track to appear on the debut album of Walking on Cars.
The album "Everything This Way" is scheduled for release on January 29, 2016. If the album is successful - and we hope it is - Walking on Cars will likely be viewed as an "overnight success."
Walking on Cars is based in Dingle, Ireland. The members are Patrick Sheehy (lead vocals), Sorcha Durham (piano), Paul Flannery (bass), Evan Hadnett (drums), and Dan Devane (lead guitar).

“Lyrics of “Speeding Car”
So if I stand in front of a speeding car,
Would you tell me who you are?
What you like?
What’s on your mind?
If I'd get it right?
How I love that no one knows.
And these secrets are all that we've got so far
The demons in the dark,
Lie again,
Play pretend like it never ends
This way no one has to know.
Even the half smile
Would help slow down the time,
If I could call you half mine,
Maybe this is the safest way to go.
We're singing
Heya heya heya heya,
Heya, heya heya
This is the safest way to go
Nobody gets hurt.
We're singing
Heya heya heya heya,
Heya, heya heya
You go back to him
And then I'll go back to her.
So if I stand in front of a speeding car
Would you give your little heart?
Say the word?
Do it too, just me and you?
This way everyone will know.
Cause the secrets are all that we've got so far,
The demons in the dark,
Lie again,
Play pretend like it never ends
This way no one has to know.
Even the half smile
Would help slow down the time,
If I could call you half mine,
Maybe this is the safest way to go
We're singing
Heya heya heya heya,
Heya, heya heya
This is the safest way to go
Nobody gets hurt.
We're singing
Heya heya heya heya,
Heya, heya heya
You go back to him
And then I'll go back to her
So if I stand in front of a speeding car,
Would you tell me who you are?
What you like?
What’s on your mind?
If I'd get it right?
How I love that no one knows
The secrets are all that we've got so far,
The demons in the dark,
Lie again.
Play pretend like it never ends
How I love that no one knows.
Advertise my secret,
I don't really need it,
I know you can feel this,
So advertise my secret,
I don't really need it,
I know you can feel this,
So advertise my…
Advertise my secret.
We're singing
Heya heya heya heya,
Heya, heya heya,
This is the safest way to go
Nobody gets hurt,
We're singing
Heya heya heya heya,
Heya, heya heya,
You go back to him
And then I'll go back to her.
If I stand in front of a speeding car
Don't know who you are
Don't know who you are.
Heya heya heya heya,
Heya, heya heya
You go back to him
And then I'll go back to her.
Walking on Cars are a breath of fresh air. Their music and vocals are raw and emotive. Gonna be huge
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what the song entails about.. Couldn't understand
ReplyDeleteI think, but I only consider the lyrics, not the video, that the song is about someone who fell deeply in love when her or she was already in a serious relationship. On the other hand it may have a deeper meaning
DeleteBut considering the video, what does it mean? Because when I heard the song, I though the same as you did, but when I saw the video, I didnt know what to think.
ReplyDeleteis it about a child dieing its very weird video an sad
ReplyDeleteNew too this has been bugging me it sings about being in love only being able to have half of that person as they are both committed but the video entails loss death of a child I love this song but the video is confusing to the lyrics
ReplyDeleteWhat if the child symbolizes their love and the death of him means the death of their love. Not sure though
ReplyDelete@touti2468, That is exactly what I thought it could be about.
DeleteI think its about two people in love that had a secret child that died, They cannot be together because they both are in other relationships so grieving has to be kept in secret and both have to return to their other lives.
ReplyDeleteThis is the best meaning of such a brilliantly sung song.. 💦💫
DeleteAgree
DeleteY'all it's the frustrated death and burial of innocence. You love what you can't have, you bury the feelings that made you feel again.
ReplyDeleteTo me this song seems like it talks about helping someone with depression, but the love-while in a relationship makes more sense.
