“Let Me Down Slowly” by Alec Benjamin – A Song Feature

It was the song “1994” that brought our attention to Alec Benjamin, since we “collect” songs with titles that are a year in the twentieth century. It was his January 7 performance on the James Corden late night show that caused us to look at his tour schedule. He is headed our way! Alec Benjamin will be at August Hall in San Francisco on March 29, 2019. Understandably, the show is sold out. He is also on the Friday schedule of the BottleRock Festival in Napa, California. For his full tour schedule, CLICK HERE.

Benjamin is a vocalist and songwriter from Phoenix, Arizona. He was born in 1994, which explains his song by that title. On James Corden’s show, he performed “Let Me Down Slowly.” The vibrato during the hums is particularly noteworthy. This week, he re-released the single, but this time with Alessia Cara. It’s yet another reason to be optimistic about the future of Alec Benjamin.

Lyrics of “Let Me Down Slowly” by Alec Benjamin (when with Alessia Cara)
This night is cold in the kingdom
I can feel you fade away
From the kitchen to the bathroom sink and
Your steps keep me awake

Don't cut me down, throw me out, leave me here to waste
I once was a man with dignity and grace
Now I'm slipping through the cracks of your cold embrace
So please, please

Could you find a way to let me down slowly?
A little sympathy, I hope you can show me
If you wanna go then I'll be so lonely
If you're leaving baby let me down slowly
Let me down, down
Let me down, down
Let me down, let me down
Down, let me down, down
Let me down

I hold onto pieces of what we were
I know We’re long gone but take it easy because it hurts

If you wanna go then I'll be so lonely
If you're leaving baby let me down slowly

Don't cut me down, throw me out, leave me here to waste
I once was a girl with dignity and grace
Now I'm slipping through the cracks of your cold embrace
So please, please

Don't cut me down, throw me out, leave me here to waste
I once was a man with dignity and grace
Now I'm slipping through the cracks of your cold embrace
So please, please
Could you find a way to let me down slowly?
A little sympathy, I hope you can show me
If you wanna go then I'll be so lonely
If you're leaving baby let me down slowly
Let me down, down
Let me down, down
Let me down, let me down
Down, let me down, down
Let me down

If you wanna go then I'll be so lonely
If you're leaving baby let me down slowly
And I can't stop myself from falling… down
And I can't stop myself from falling… down
And I can't stop myself from falling… down
And I can't stop myself from falling… down

Could you find a way to let me down slowly?
A little sympathy, I hope you can show me
If you wanna go then I'll be so lonely
If you're leaving baby let me down slowly
Let me down, down
Let me down, down
Let me down, let me down
Down, let me down, down
Let me down

If you wanna go then I'll be so lonely
If you're leaving baby let me down slowly
If you wanna go then I'll be so lonely
If you're leaving baby, let me down slowly

Donna Missal also performed on a January 7 late night show. Her song “Keep Lying” was well received by the audience of Seth Meyers. After watching the show, we entered her name and "Janis Joplin" into the Google search field. Not surprisingly, we were far from the first ones to compare the two.
Donna Missal will be at The Independent in San Francisco on March 26, 2019. For ticket information - CLICK HERE.
